A team entry is only as good as its roster. This guide covers the whole journey: the captain who builds the squad, the player who accepts an invite, and the lone player looking for a team.
How a roster comes together: register, invite, accept, check in — and the roster locks.
The rules of a roster
| Rule | What it means |
|---|---|
| Minimum and maximum size | The tournament sets both. Valorant, for example, is five players plus up to two substitutes. You need the minimum number of accepted players to check in. |
| Only accepted players count | An invite does nothing until the player says yes. |
| The roster locks at check-in | After your team checks in, nobody can be added, removed or renamed. Finish the roster before the check-in window. |
| Who can be invited | Club members, by default. A tournament can also allow friends and followers from outside the club; accepting then joins them to the club, or follows it if the club reviews new members. Private clubs stay members-only. |
| One entry per player | A player already on another entry in the same tournament cannot be invited to yours. |
Roles on a team
| Role | Can do |
|---|---|
| Captain | Everything: enter and withdraw the team, pay the entry fee, invite and remove players, appoint a co-captain, transfer the captaincy, and report results (one voice per team). |
| Co-captain | Invite and remove players, edit handles and check the team in. A deputy, so an absent captain does not eliminate the team. |
| Player | Accept or decline an invite, set their own in-game handle, and leave the team. |
As a captain
Step 1: Register the team
Follow Enter a tournament to enter with a standing team or start fresh. Players you tick on the entry window are invited straight away.
Step 2: Invite players
Use Invite a player to search by name or username. Anyone eligible shows an In club label; press the add icon to invite them.
Searching the invite box shows eligible people. Each gets an invite and decides for themselves.
If someone cannot be invited, the page tells you why in plain words: they declined recently, already have too many unanswered invites from you, are not a member of the club, or are already playing in this tournament.
Step 3: Watch the roster fill
The captain's roster: progress to the minimum, invites, per-player controls, spot requests and the crest.
Under each player is their in-game ID field. Captains and co-captains can set anyone's; players can set their own. A handle that does not look like the game's format gets an amber warning rather than a refusal.
Step 4: Set the crest
Pick one of the twelve crests, or press Upload your own badge. It shows beside your team on the bracket and the entrant list, and you can change it any time.
As an invited player
When a captain invites you, you get a notification and the invite appears on the tournament page.
Your invite. Accepting adds you to the roster for this tournament only.
After accepting you appear on the roster and can set your handle or leave.
Once accepted you can still Leave this team until the roster locks at check-in.
Free agents: find a team
No team? You can offer yourself to captains who need one more player.
Step 1: List yourself
On a team tournament's entry panel, press List me for this cup.
Offer yourself to captains for this cup only.
Only your name, handle and game tag are shared, and only for this tournament. You can remove yourself at any time.
Once listed you can see you are on the board and press Remove me to withdraw.
Step 2: Or ask a team directly
In the entrants list, press Join team on a team with spare seats, type your in-game name and Send request.
The entrants list shows spare seats. Join team opens a short request.
A spot request is just your in-game name. There is no free-text note.
As a captain: free agents and requests
Captains see free agents inside the roster builder. Open players looking for a team, and press Add to invite someone.
The free-agent board inside the captain's roster builder.
Requests from players appear under Spot requests. Accepting puts the player on the roster with the name they sent; rejecting declines the request.
Spot requests: accept to seat the player, or reject.
Standing teams
If you play together often, create a standing team in My Teams. A standing team keeps its crest, bio and players between tournaments, and entering with it takes seconds. See Teams and Manage a team.
Common problems
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| "You need N accepted players to check in" | Fewer players have accepted than the minimum. Chase the pending invites or add free agents. |
| A teammate cannot be found | They may not be in the club yet. Ask them to join the club first, or check whether outside invites are allowed. |
| I accepted by mistake | Use Leave this team before check-in. |
| Roster is locked | Check-in has happened and the roster is final. Contact the organizer if something is genuinely wrong. |
